Note the cute hat and tail bow on the Lady Giraffe, the top hat on the Man, and the silly monkey looking on to the right. This wonderful series is circa 1909 or thereabouts, by an unnamed, probably German publisher. These "Lovers from the Jungle" cards have the finest, deepest embossing I've ever seen. Judging by the number on his sweater, he is part of some sort of competition. We see other dogs with numbers on their sweaters below. He has sort of a surprised air, and a slightly panic--ed look about him, perhaps he is trying to impress the lady dogs we see below, and bit off more than he could chew. Circa the 1900s.
