S. S. Miami
Code: UF505M
$0.00
I think if I have a favorite Alligator Border - what a tough decision! - it might have to be this wonderful view of the S. S. Miami. There's something about the colors: the red flags fluttering gaily in the breeze, the yellow details on the ship, the blue sky. And the details are great: lifeboats on the side of the ship, the people lining the side of the ship, the black smoke belching from the smokestacks. We do a frame job on Alligator Borders that'd knock your socks off, and I've got the S.S. Miami framed in both the black walnut and pecan to use as samples. Just great.

Entrance to Dreamland, Coney Island
Code: NY1799
$0.00
What a wonderful 'shell border' view of the Entrance to Dreamland, Coney Island,.' postmarked 1908. How charming! Really amazing architecture, too, looking at the lady (goddess?) at the Entrance, with huge white wings that form the arches to the Entrance. Above this gal, up in the clouds, is a sign that says "Dreamland Creation." What in the world went on in there?? Really interesting, especially good shells.

Uncle Sam Santa is at the door!
Code: UncleSamSanta3
$0.00
Terrific image of Uncle Sam Santa right at the door, with a Christmas tree and two American flags in his arms. Two girls have answered his knock. Excellent colors! This image was originally a "Hold To Light" card, which is exactly as its name implies - a card that light shines through when you hold it up to the light. This Uncle Sam Santa series came in several versions: the embossed cards, the Hold To Light cards, and the "Squeaker" cards. The Squeaker is perhaps the most rare version, since children almost invariably tore open the card to see what made it squeak. Circa 1909 or so. Lovely and fun.

Bathing Beauty with Umbrella and Beach Ball
Code: BathingBeauty61
$0.00
Unbelievable Bathing Beauty image with fantastic colors. That magenta is amazing! I love the scene of three children playing on the beach with beach balls, while a pretty girl is resting under an umbrella nearby, also with a beach ball. An Italian card, circa the 1920s or so. Some of the best coloring I've ever seen.
