Slim Jim Bow Ties
Code: SlimJim
$0.00
I have to say that this is pretty much my favorite linen of all time - I saw it, I loved it, and I had to have it. Wow! Circa 1939, this advertising image simply hits on all cylinders. Fabulous graphics, colors, content, even humor - it's wonderful! There's the ruddy-cheeked, debonair bon vivant, with his slicked back jet black hair and mustache, wearing a "Slim Jim" bow tie out at the race track. The bow ties are cute, and gosh, at 35 and 50 cents each they sound very reasonably priced. I love the way the rainbow-shaped colors radiate out of the lower right, changing from blue, to green, to yellow. The little touches of red are perfect. I have this in a 20x32 canvas on the wall in my office, and now I wish I'd done it bigger. This is very special.

What an excellent linen advertising card! This is a great vertical view of a handsome Clark Gable-type man advertising Palm Beach Cravats: "When Summer Comes... Choose America's Summer Tie". A "Genuine 'Beau Brummell'". Wow, styles in ties certainly have changed! Circa the 1940s or so.

Portis
Code: Portis
$0.00
Here's a wonderful vertical linen advertising card, promoting Portis Hats "America's Favorites Coast-To -Coast." Here's an attractive woman, flanked by two handsome, hat-wearing men, in front of the nation's capitol, saying "Your Portis Hats Look Right Everywhere We Go." This is circa WWII or so. Great! This card was used by Neff Clothing Co. of Atlantic, Iowa, to advertise both their store and this hat line.

Portis Firma Felt
Code: PortisFirmaFelt
$0.00
Love these imaginative Portis linen advertising cards! This one is also circa WWII, and promotes their "Bunny Soft Firma-Felt" line by showing five handsome, hat-wearing men (note that the youngest of them is smoking a pipe). The backgrounds are interesting, too, since both could be in Europe, particularly the one on the right, saying of course, that a Portis hat will be fashionable, au courant, anywhere in the world.

Walk-Over Koolies
Code: Walk-Over
$0.00
Here's a super vertical linen advertising image promoting "Walk-Over Koolies," a brand that had this catchy slogan: "The smart way to beat the heat. Let the breezes cool your feet." Features a guy (smoking a pipe) sitting on a hill with his girl, and two different models of Koolies. Advertising for men's shoes is a lot rarer, as you can imagine, than for women's shoes.

Somerset Superfine Shoes
Code: SomersetSuperfineShoes
$0.00
One of the best linen advertising cards I've ever seen. Vertical linen advertising card promoting Somerset Superfine Shoes for Men, postmarked 1948, this card just hits on all cylinders. The way the background color 'glows' at the center of the image, the interesting font on "Somerset", the handsome brown shoes, the young man cheering in front of a bench flanked by two football players... This is one handsome image.

Hanover Uniforms
Code: HanoverUniforms
$0.00
Here's an interesting WWII-era advertising linen for Hanover Uniforms, showing the practically infinite possibilities available in purchasing a uniform. I suppose this was aimed at police forces, military academies, and that sort of thing. Ten fashion colors, braid, stripes,... the possibilities were endless!

Hanover Shirts
Code: HanoverShirts
$0.00
Another interesting 1940s advertising linen for Hanover Shirts: Comfortable - Colorful - Correct, showing a long-sleeved model, and an "Elbo"-length sleeved model. The Shirt of 1000 Uses! What I like about this is the contrast between the man wearing the 'elbo' shirt, and the other man. Presumably, the man in the long-sleeved shirt works in the office, as demonstrated by his pale cheeks, skinny shoulders, and wider waistline. The other man, the manly man in the 'elbo' shirt has ruddy cheeks, a wider face, wider shoulders, and a slimmer waist. Fun!
