Store of Wallace A. Burch
Code: MA3581
$0.00
I'm sure that most of you living in North Falmouth aren't related to Wallace A. Burch, but I want you to buy a print of his store nonetheless, because is, quite frankly, an extraordinary postcard. The details are amazing, the colors are superb. The scene couldn't be much better, either. There's Mr. Burch (or a customer) just pulled up to the Store in his horse-and-buggy. There's Mrs. Burch ready to great him. I see all sorts of interesting things in the windows: a lady's blouse on a mannequin, towels, canned and bottled goods, and two posters. Nice striped awning. No doubt the Burches lived in the top floor, and there was probably a door between the Store and the kitchen. There's a terrific horse and wagon to the right, and the covered wagon says "W. A. Burch" plain as day. In the summer it was shady - nice for the horse. Behind the house are some outbuildings, one of which - I'd imagine - was an out house. I think Mr. Burch is the man in the buggy because someone so entrepreneurial, organized, and innovative - and let's face it - self-promotional - wouldn't have been able to stand being left out of the picture! I bet in a pinch Mama Burch hopped into the delivery wagon and went out by herself. Look at the sky! Look at the shingles! On the back, in ink that's turned brown over time, is written April 20, 1908. What a card!!
