The "Lone Star" Belle
Code: TX0001
$0.00
Fun "Lone Star" Belle from the Raphael Tuck & Sons "State Belles" series. This young woman has on a big hat and leather gloves, and is holding a spray of bluebonnets, which everyone knows is the State Flower of Texas. She's leaning on a fence of some sort made of sticks, with her arm resting on steer horns. Behind her are teepees and a smoking cook fire. Delightful. Circa the early 1900s. (Thanks to Beth Rich of Dallas for clueing me in on the name of the State Flower...!!)

Empire of Texas
Code: Texas1
$0.00
You just have to look at these Texas cards, smile, and shake your head. Here's a card that shows a smiling man in a fancy convertible finishing a trek across a skeleton-ridden desert, about to enter TEXAS - land of green grass, happy livestock, oil wells, good roads, cowboy boots, and 10-gallon hats. And look! the sign says "You Are Entering The EMPIRE OF TEXAS Pick Up Your Boots and Ten Gallon Hats Here." Sure enough, after passing under the TEXAS sign, immediately to the right there are tables filled with hats and boots. Too silly for words! Circa the early 1950s or so.
