  With all my worldly goods...
Code: WorldlyGoods
$0.00
Really wonderful view of a courting gentleman, on his knees in front of his sweetheart, enthusiastically clutching his breast with his (gloved) hands and exclaiming "With all my worldly goods I thee endow!" She's looking abashed, but there's something so charming about his sincere and innocent expression - I just love it. Postmarked 1907, and the message is interesting. Addressed to a Miss Sybil Vosi in Hornell, NY, it says: "I am going to live in New York City hereafter - Will you join me." Unsigned, unfortunately, so we can only speculate...

  Flirt in St. Moritz #1
Code: FlirtinSt.Moritz1
$0.00
This is little group of three real photo views of the Eisballett "Flirt in St. Moritz" is so wonderful and rare it staggers the imagination. The Admiralspalast was an entertainment center in Berlin, built in 1911, which included a huge ice rink with several tiers of seating. The ice rink could be covered over with a wooden floor for dancing. These charming views are fascinating not only for their rarity, and for the fact that I found three from the same performance, "Flirt in St. Moritz," but also because they are hand-colored photos. All the colors, including the heavy, nail polish-like white additions to the performers' costumes, was added to the original negative, which adds to the interest and the almost campy feel of the images. In this first view, we see Ellen Dallerup and Alfred Jainczik dressed in wonderfully elaborate costumes - on skates of course - gazing at each other. They both are wearing fur-trimmed hats and sashes (his is longer), and he has a flower on the one glove we can see. All these real photos are from a series by Willinger, Berlin.

  Flirt in St. Moritz #2
Code: FlirtinSt.Moritz2
$0.00
Here are two other performers in "Flirt in St. Moritz," Charlotte and Max Feist, posing for their publicity photos. Both are wearing fur-trimmed costumes and fur hats, and Charlotte has a pinkish rose in her hair. This photo is interesting because, unlike the other two, this is taken in front of a backdrop, as opposed to inside the Admiralspalast, where you can see the architectural details of the building.

  Flirt in St. Moritz #3
Code: FlirtinSt.Moritz3
$0.00
This third view is nothing if not strange. At first glance, we have two sets of three people - two girls and a boy - to the left and right side of an enormous man in a blue and white striped suit. If the enormous man wasn't strange enough - and he is strange! - you also notice that what at first appears to be two girls to his right are actually two men in skirts. So we have two women with a man, the enormous man, and then three men. Very weird and fun. The colors are gentle pastel greens, blues, pinks, and yellows. The enormous man has interesting green gloves, and those white dots continue to decorate the costumes. A wonderful and fascinating group of real photos, the kind of find that makes postcard collecting such a wonderful hobby.
